What it shows
Samples from Western Australia, coloured by how much gold each one held: low (background, under 10 ppb of gold), anomalous (10 to 100 ppb), high (100 to 1000 ppb), or bonanza (1000 ppb and over). Those cutoffs are in parts per billion (ppb), where 1000 ppb is about one gram of gold in a tonne of rock. Each point is a company sample whose method was either not recorded, or was something other than soil, rock chip, stream sediment or shallow drill, lodged with the state in the WAMEX database. They are kept as a layer of their own so a sample stays visible on the map rather than being filed under a method it may not belong to.
