What it shows
The official Western Australian 1:250,000 geological-series map sheets, from the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, stitched into one seamless statewide image. This is the detailed survey cartography, far finer than the broad national 1:1,000,000 geology, so it shows the rock units and structures at the scale gold is actually worked. It covers the whole state. It is a picture map, so it is look-only: tapping, recolouring and filtering are not available, and there are no separate fault or contact lines to pick out. Read geology first, as it shows why gold sits where it does. Use it alongside the national Western Australia geology, which can be tapped. Where the ground is mapped in finer detail, the 1:100,000 mosaic shows more, so switch to it to read the rock closer up.
