What it shows
Interpreted bedrock geology covering the whole of Western Australia at 1:500,000, from the Geological Survey of Western Australia, painted in the survey's own per-unit colours, so different rocks read as clearly different colours. This is the solid rock beneath the surface cover, worked out from mapping, geophysics and drilling, so it shows the geology gold actually sits in rather than the sand and soil on top. The coloured areas are rock units; the lines are mapped faults and shear zones. It covers the whole state with no gaps, so it reads as the base layer.
