What it shows
Seamless surface geology for Victoria at 1:250,000, from the Victorian Government, the only Victorian product that covers the whole state without gaps. The coloured areas are rock units, painted in the survey's own per-unit colours. A unit the palette does not cover falls back to an age-based shade. The lines are mapped faults and the geological contacts, the boundaries between units. Read geology first, as it shows why gold sits where it does: faults are where fluids moved and gold dropped, and contacts between rock types often mark the same boundaries. Tap a unit for its lithology and age, or a line for the structure type and, for a fault, its name and how it moved where the survey records them. Use it to follow a favourable rock or a fault in the direction it runs, into new ground.
