What it shows
A heat map built from Mineral Resources Tasmania's gold-occurrence points. It colours the ground by how densely recorded gold clusters, and each point counts for more the more significant it is, so a working mine weighs heavier than a bare occurrence. The density is sorted into six bands, and the brightest cores are the worked districts where gold has been found again and again. Read it to spot productive ground, then turn on the gold-occurrence points to see the individual finds. This is a guide to where gold has been recorded, not a promise of gold today. Tasmania bans metal detectors inside fossicking areas, so check the land-access rules before you go.
