What it shows
A heat map built from the New South Wales gold-occurrence points (the Geological Survey of NSW dataset). It colours the ground by how densely recorded gold clusters, and each point counts for more the more significant it is, so a working mine weighs heavier than a bare occurrence. The density is sorted into six bands, and the brightest cores are the worked districts where gold has been found again and again. Read it to spot productive ground, then turn on the gold-occurrence points to see the individual finds. This is a guide to where gold has been recorded, not a promise of gold today.
