What it shows
Recorded gold occurrences across Queensland, from the Geological Survey of Queensland's mines-and-mineral-occurrence dataset (MINOCC), filtered to gold sites. Each point is a place gold has been recorded, as a mine, prospect or occurrence. Tap a point for its name, commodity, mine status and size, and filter by what was done to the ground: alluvial workings, mine dumps, costeans and outcrops, open cuts and pits, and exploration prospects. The points cluster tightly over the old fields like Charters Towers, Gympie and the Palmer. These are historical records, not a promise of gold in the ground today, but they map where gold has been found before. Check the land-access rules before you detect.
